Kal goes Democrazy on Maryland Morning

January 21st, 2010 | Category: News

Kal USD promo art web

I will be on WYPR”s Maryland Morning broadcast Friday morning¬†discussing the great website¬†USDemocrazy.com.

Here’s a link to the audio, we start at the 26:50 mark.

USDemocrazy is a project that I lead as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Maryland Baltimore County UMBC. The site is a current events/educational/entertainment site dedicated to making the news fun and interesting.

I have corralled an elite team of University student bloggers (I refer to them as my vagabonding Blogateers) to supply daily updates on current events.

We are also teaming up with High Schools around the country who are interested in using USDemocrazy in the classroom as a tool for discussing current events.

It’s a great project with enormous potential. To learn more, listen to the interview or contact me here!

In my role as Artist-in-Residence at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) I have worked with students, faculty and staff on a variety of fun and interesting projects.  My current job is director of the great website www.USDemocrazy.net.  The site is dedicated to demystifying and explaining the complex and crazy US democracy.  Check out our mission statement above.

We now have launched a cool blog. We are posting five days a week sharing news and information in a playful manner. Check it out and bookmark it here.

I am very excited to announce the launch of an exciting new website. USDemocrazy.net is the creation of students and staff at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). The site is fun and informative, using cartoons, animation and playful language to help address and explain the complexities of our democracy.

My team at USDemocrazy set out to capture the color and character of each of our 50 states. To help in this endeavor, we contacted the very best experts in each state-The Political Cartoonists-to be our first contributors. With their help we have built a growing data base of fun and important information.

Check out the short introduction video below:

The site is an interactive venture.  We are still looking to add more information on each state and expand our state animations (I have finished 32 so far). Check out the site and offer your insights.
